Have you ever gazed up into a sky studded with stars which seem so close you could reach up and touch them? A goddess who brings blessings of fertility; lovers separated by a vast river; a captured princess and a brave man fighting a beast in a bid to save her... Tonight, quietly look up to the sky and listen to the stars as they tell tales of the gods.

Hoshi no bunkakan: Facility Guide

An observatory where you can encounter stars both during the day and at night

Hoshi no bunkakan’s observatory allows visitors to look at stars at any time of the day. It is one of only a handful of observatories in Japan with a telescope that is open to the public from daytime throughout the week. And you can also stay at our adjoining mini hotel, allowing you to enjoy the night sky at your leisure.

In 2017, a 100 cm astronomical telescope, the largest of its kind, was installed at the observatory as part of refurbishment work. Computer-controlled telescopes with diameters of 100 cm and 65 cm give us a vivid glimpse at stars shining far away in space.
